Chariots Sees Kazu Osumi Pushing Her Sound into Bold, Cinematic Territory
Late last year, California-based singer/songwriter Kathryn Le, better known by her moniker Kazu Osumi, released a gentle and poignant single called Times of Love. At the time, I proudly labelled the tune a "heartfelt and introspective little gem," and to be honest, I've been waiting to hear from the musician ever since.
Now, while the delay has been a tad longer than expected, I'm pleased to announce that Kazu has finally made her triumphant return with a bold and theatrical new track titled Chariots. Let's explore!
First things first, there's a real sense of sonic ambition coursing through the song's veins. Featuring arpeggiators, delay throws, and the mixing of two separate soundscapes, Kazu pushes her creative boundaries to the absolute limit.
Teaming up with a bunch of artists from Musicversal to bring her vision to life, Kazu uses the tune's cinematic production to tackle the heavy themes of cruelty, racism, and corrupt power.
"I'd say what was happening with ICE in the US provided most of the impetus for the creation of the song," explains Kathryn. "There were a lot of feelings stirred up."
When reviewing Times of Love, I mentioned that Kazu was perhaps still finding her sound and style. With Chariots, I believe that search is over. It's an absolutely delicious offering!
