Plain Drifter Delivers Vintage Rock and Classic Storytelling on New Single Cracks in the Mirror

It wasn't long ago that I was singing the praises of Sam Lillicrap, an Australian singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who performs under the moniker Plain Drifter. He'd just released a heartfelt, nostalgia-laced gem called Long Way Down, and that led me down a rabbit hole of his past releases. Before long, I was sold - and I've kept a close eye (and ear) on the artist ever since. All of which brings me to Cracks in the Mirror, Sam's gritty, edgy, and wonderfully anthemic new single! Let's dive in!

Another track that will eventually form part of Plain Drifter's upcoming album, All Roads Lead To This, Cracks in the Mirror leans hard into classic, raw, vintage rock. Turning to the likes of Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and Ryan Adams for inspiration, Sam channels that same honest, from-the-heart storytelling - but he pairs it with his own thick, distinctive, and crunchy groove.

"Cracks in the Mirror is about what happens when the person you see in the mirror doesn't quite feel like the person you used to be," explains the tune's creator. A deep dive into the breakdown of confidence and the way self-doubt changes how you see yourself, Sam's latest offering turns a personal struggle into a big, cathartic rock anthem that is simply irresistible!
