Chewy Psych-Pop and Deep Introspection Form the Backbone of Wotts’ New Single Surrender

"I wrote the song when I was stuck between who I was and who I wanted to be." Those are the words of Jayem, the man behind Canadian indie-pop project Wotts, and he's referring to Surrender, his luscious, summery, and highly immersive new single.

Leaning heavily into a psychedelic-pop sound and infusing it with indie electronic textures, Surrender has that classic Wotts mood running through its veins. Chewy and dreamy, the hypnotic piece of music is in no hurry to reach its destination - instead, it sucks the listener in with warmth and bliss. Then, and only then, does it take things up a notch.

Giving way to a sudden, cathartic release, Surrender breaks free from its chains and finally allows everything that had previously simmered beneath the surface to come flooding through. Pulsing, joyous, and oh so liberating, it's simply impossible not to get swept up in the sheer emotion of it all.

"I wanted the second half to feel like everything is breaking open," explains Jayem. "Like you've been holding something in the entire time, and then it just spills out into this massive, freeing moment." Mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned!

Serving as Wotts' second release as a solo act, Surrender is another confident step forward in Jayem's ever-evolving artistry - and one that leaves me seriously excited for whatever comes next!
