Dark, Dense, and Magnetic: Discover William J. Sullivan’s House of Leaves
What I've come to learn about the work of Los Angeles-based artist William J. Sullivan is that one should always expect the unexpected. His music is bold and courageous - refusing to sit in a box of any kind.
My introduction to William's sound came in the form of Good Fences Make Good Neighbors, a blistering tune featuring noted rapper Zilla Rocca. Then Hit Yo Phone came into my sonic orbit and was quickly followed by Victim's Victim. Needless to say, I was sold!
Today, it's the chance for House of Leaves to take centre stage and, once again, it's a showcase of William's fearless approach to songwriting. Teaming up with SharpKnel, a New York duo comprising PremRock and Curly Castro, William sets about building a dense and moody soundscape.
Brooding guitar textures and a buzzing bass are layered over an atmospheric hip-hop production, creating a sound that's both murky and magnetic, as it pulls you in deeper and deeper. PremRock and Curly Castro deliver their verses with precision and poise, and their chemistry perfectly matches the tension of William’s dark audio canvas.
Another standout addition to the musician's ever-expanding discography, House of Leaves is a jolt to the system that you simply can't ignore!
