DownTown Mystic Keeps the Good Times Rolling With Classic Rock Charm on Mystic Highway Road Trip
Reviewing another DownTown Mystic release is becoming something of a challenge. Not because the music isn't superb - on the contrary - but because I'm beginning to run out of new ways to praise it. As the brainchild of New Jersey-based rocker Robert Allen, I've been fortunate enough to cover a lot of DownTown Mystic's recent releases, and my main takeaway is this: consistency at this level is incredibly rare.
Mystic Highway Road Trip is a six-track offering that sees Robert continuing on his rocky, energetic, and upbeat sonic journey. Teaming up, once again, with an absurdly talented lineup of musicians, Robert and co. deliver six high-octane tunes that capture everything I've come to love about DownTown Mystic.
Superstar - To Sir Elton with Love Mix gets the ball rolling in classic rock 'n' fashion. Gritty, layered, and laced with nostalgia, it's the perfect start, before fading out and making way for Live, a twangy, country-infused gem that hits with warmth and honesty.
Losing My Mind - Re-Mix brings a message of hope in turbulent times, and features guitar virtuoso Lance Doss, while its successor, Shadow Walk, offers up a smoky, bluesy groove that instantly sucks you in.
Fly - Buddy Holly Mix and an uncut version of Somebody's Always Doin' Something To Somebody complete the EP, and from here on out, I think it's best to let the music do the talking.
