Electric High Prove Their Mettle with Powerful Sophomore Album Free to go
Cards on the table…I've been keeping a pretty close eye on Electric High since early 2024. Based in Norway, the five-piece outfit delivers a crunchy blend of high-powered rock and wastes no time throwing the listener straight into the deep end.
With their sophomore album finally here, the band have doubled down on that "This is us, take it or leave it" attitude. And that freedom, in turn, has fueled a record with zero filler or fluff. Just pure rock.
A ten-track offering titled Free to go, the album gets underway with Thick As Thieves, a tune that lands with old-school rock 'n' roll muscle, before Close To Be steps up to the plate with more fiery passion. Gritty and utterly hypnotic, it's quickly becoming a favourite of mine.
Lover Lover is full-throttle power from beginning to end, while its successor, Ain't Got Nothing But Time, is a song I previously described as "energetic, infectious, and dripping with swagger." I stand firmly by that assessment!
Other personal favourites include the smashing title track, the Sabbath-esque Higher Heights, and the unexpectedly funky little closer Feed Me A Groove. I do, however, recommend gorging on the record as a full course. It's easily one of the best I've heard this year!
