Flowers Sees Dirt Preachers Union Channel Paisley Americana Into Smoky Rock Magic

Flowers is the rocking debut single courtesy of a Santa Cruz-based outfit known as the Dirt Preachers Union. A five-member act that previously operated under the name Big Medicine Head, the band is known for its Paisley Americana aesthetic, and their first offering under a new name shows they’ve lost none of that swagger.

Deciding to cover a rather obscure Paul Kamanski (The Beat Farmers) tune, Dirt Preachers Union set about taking Flowers and turning it into an energetic and smoky little banger. Full of heart and grit, there's a soulfulness that permeates through the track's bones, giving it an honesty that simply can't be faked.

Enlisting the legendary Beat Farmer, Joey Harris, to join in on the action, the outfit taps into a rich and road-weary groove. It's full-throttle stuff from beginning to end, and hits with the energy of a late-night dive bar packed to the rafters.

On the eleventh of next month, Dirt Preachers Union will team up with The Beat Farmers for a night of powerful live music at Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz. "We're excited to play with them," says Robert Gemmell. "If we were lounge singers, it would be like sharing the stage with Frank Sinatra".
