Jungle in my Head is Exceptional Failures’ Genre-Hopping Rock Adventure

Jungle in my Head is anything but your typical rock album, so let's just start there. Courtesy of Oregon-based two-piece, Exceptional Failures, each of the eight tunes dives into a different corner of the rock universe. Like a pair of sonic alchemists gone slightly off the rails, Corey Distler and Damian have served up a genre-hopping adventure that somehow never misses a single beat. Let's dive in, shall we?

The record's title track begins proceedings, and plunges the listener into a sea of heavy, bluesy riffs. Thick with sludgy tones and a gritty undercurrent, it's a bold and thrilling introduction.

Givin' it all Away then comes into play, and offers a cleaner and more "radio-friendly" sound, before giving way to the timeless and anthemic gem that is Rock Daddy.

Hey! is unquestionably one of the most intriguing songs I've come across all year, and I'm not even going to attempt to place it into a musical pigeonhole. It's a genius piece of music, and leads us perfectly into the raw and dark vibe of Claws.

The remaining three tunes are yours to discover at your own leisure. All I'll say is that Jungle in my Head is quickly becoming one of my go-to albums. It's just so fresh and exciting and daring!
