Freaking Out Marks a Colourful and Poignant New Chapter for Apple Eyes
Released last week, Freaking Out is the jangly and buoyant new single courtesy of a London-based indie duo named Apple Eyes. Comprised of Claire Hadidjenar and Matthew Walke, Apple Eyes formed over a decade ago as a three-piece, but the passing of their beloved band member Edd changed everything.
Silence followed for some time, until years later, when Claire and Matthew revisited some of their music. Intent on re-recording older material, the pair's new chapter is undoubtedly a poignant one, but beneath the sadness lies a beautiful return to creativity.
A long-standing crowd favourite, Freaking Out was penned by Claire while living in East London. Struck by a feeling of what she described as "joyful disorientation", not knowing where you're going but loving it anyway, the thrill of uncertainty courses through the track's veins. It's exciting and lively and full of colour…moving with the carefree confidence of two people finally finding joy in music again.
Citing acts like Of Montreal, Deerhoof, and Dirty Projectors as being influential on their sound, Apple Eyes aren't interested in labels or genre boundaries. Exploring freely, and guided by curiosity, they're an outfit that unapologetically go where the music takes them - and you know that's what we're all about here at Savoy Truffle Tunes!
