MyKungFu’s Single Damage Is a 2012 Indie-Pop Gem That Still Sparkles in 2026

You're not wrong…here at Savoy Truffle Tunes, we generally focus on recent music. That said, when one discovers an indie-pop gem like Damage, release dates go out the window. Courtesy of Domi Schreiber, a Swiss singer/songwriter who performs under the moniker MyKungFu, the tune was actually released all the way back in 2012. Now, you may think a track from 2012 would feel dated in 2026, but I'm here to tell you that Damage still sparkles as brightly as it did fourteen years ago! Let's jump in!

Driven by an acoustic guitar and Domi's gentle vocals, Damage has a playful and carefree vibe. A glockenspiel and a Casio synth provide that signature MyKungFu sound, yet beneath the song's bouncy attitude, there's a bittersweet honesty that gives the tune its depth.

Described by Domi as being "the perfect soundtrack for a drive into the sunset," and a "danceable piece of melancholic bliss," Damage is the kind of track that puts you in a good mood without pretending that everything is sunny and rosy. It's authentic, genuine stuff - something sadly lacking in today's cookie-cutter and formulaic world.

There's something deeply rewarding about stumbling across a song long after its release, falling in love with it, and then diving into its creator's work. I've accomplished the first two, so now it's time to dig into MyKungFu’s back catalogue properly!
