HIGHWAYVES Channel the Grit of Grunge and the Haze of Shoegaze on FAMILY TREE

I knew I'd come across the Isle of Man artistic collective HIGHWAYVES before, but to be honest, I had to dig into my archives to find out when. It was the beginning of 2023, and the outfit's gritty and shoegazy gem PLASTIC had just been released.

It was a tune that formed part of HIGHWAYVES' debut EP EVIE, a five-track offering I fell completely in love with. Fast forward to today, and the band have just dropped FAMILY TREE, their latest piece of grungy and hazy brilliance I'm honoured to introduce you to.

Delving into the shadows of familial bonds, FAMILY TREE begins in an eerie and laid-back fashion. It's not long, however, before HIGHWAYVES plunge the listener into a sea of swirling electric guitar and spacey ambience, pulling you deeper into the act's emotional and hypnotic soundscape.

Channelling the sludgy angst of grunge heavyweights like Nirvana and Alice In Chains, and fusing that with the dreamy haze of shoegaze and indie rock, HIGHWAYVES have crafted a haunting yet cathartic tune. It's intense and filled with tension and drama - just the way we like it round here!
