Jessi Robertson Reimagines Shadow War with Haunting and Evocative Precision

In November last year, I had the pleasure of interviewing Nashville-based singer/songwriter Jessi Robertson. She had just released Dark Matter, a vulnerable and emotional eight-track album that instantly grabbed hold of me.

Song two on the record is a tune called Shadow War, and Jessi has now taken the bold step of reimagining the single, teaming up with Aaron Berg (Mountainwalker) to concoct an atmospheric and tense retelling of the original. Let's dive in, shall we?

Launching the Dark Matter Singularity Series, Jessi's new offering revisits one of the album's most thematically rich tracks. Investigating how fear and division can warp our perception of ourselves and others, the remix of Shadow War gives the tune space to breathe and expand. It's haunting stuff, really, and the addition of evocative piano melodies only deepens that sense of unease and intrigue.

Inviting listeners to pause, question, and eventually acknowledge the warm, beating heart we all share, what Jessi and Aaron have concocted is something pretty rare and special. They've breathed fresh life into an already powerful and eloquent piece of music. A feat, I believe, very few artists ever truly get right.

Delicate, moving, and simply sublime, Jessi Robertson's reimagining of Shadow War is an absolute triumph!
