La Need Machine’s Debut Album, Pourquoi? C'est L'Amour!, Is a Home Run of Hope and Harmony

My first encounter with the Seattle-based indie act La Need Machine was just over a year ago, and I've been utterly hooked on their sound ever since. Tunes like These Old Jeans and The Mountain cemented their status as one of my favourite discoveries of 2024, and I am now honoured to share Pourquoi? C'est L'Amour!, the brand's cracking debut album, with you!

Described by the outfit as "a collection of songs that fit together like a set of baseball cards," La Need Machine's first full-length record is a hopeful and uplifting one. Filled with soaring harmonies, infectious rhythms, and deeply introspective lyricism, it's really the ultimate showcase of what they're all about.

Kicking things off with heart and vibrancy, Our Song also perfectly lays the groundwork for the quieter, more unhurried sounds of I Wish I Could Fly.

Vocalist Elise Dahlberg then puts on a spellbinding performance with a haunting rendition of Over the Rainbow, before The Mountain, a song I previously described as a "powerful and timeless experience," makes its appearance.

Other personal favourites include Maria, These Old Jeans, and Sardonic Love. The entirety of Pourquoi? C'est L'Amour! deserves your attention, though, as every tune offers its own charm and brilliance.
