Love In The Circle Proves 9 o’clock Nasty Are Masters of Genre Mashups
9 o'clock Nasty are a seriously interesting bunch. I first encountered the Leicester-based punk trio nearly two years ago, and to say they've been prolific ever since would be an understatement. I also mentioned then that they're a band who keep listeners on their toes - a trait once again on full display with their brand new single Love In The Circle.
A smooth and slithering beat oozes through the speakers, before Pete Brock makes his vocal introduction. It's not long, however, before the tune morphs into something unexpected: an immersive and eclectic piece of hip-hop brilliance. From then on, it's all attitude and atmosphere, as 9 o'clock Nasty showcase their blend of defiant and off-kilter genius.
"Infatuation. Desire. Poor judgement." These are just some of the ways the outfit describes the heart of their latest release. "How can you find love in the circle of filth?" is the central question posed to the listener, and it’s not as simple a question as it may first appear.
Continuing to challenge musical conventions and deliver a sound that's both rebellious and reflective, 9 o'clock Nasty play by their own rules. That's what I've come to love and respect about them the most.
