Omnesia Build a Sonic World of Their Own on Ambitious New Album Future Vintage
Since discovering the California-based duo Omnesia last year, and hearing through the grapevine that they were gearing up for a new album, I’ve been quietly counting down the days to its release. Certain that when it arrived, it would arrive with purpose, I'm immensely satisfied to say the wait is officially over, and I couldn’t be more honoured to share Future Vintage with you. Let's dive in, shall we?
Dangle, a tune our regulars will be very familiar with, gets the ball rolling. Previously labelling it a "hypnotic sonic whirlwind," it's the perfect scene setter for Future Vintage, before it fades out, and allows the raw, brooding sounds of Broken Love to take front and centre.
Sexy Party showcases one of the many sonic identities in the duo's creative arsenal, delivering an intense and futuristic composition, while its successor, Days and Nights, displays a more "radio-friendly" side to Omnesia's aural landscape.
As a seventeen-track offering, you'll forgive me for resisting the urge to unpack each song individually. What I will say, however, is that the record is genius - and also includes outstanding covers of Frank Zappa's Dirty Love, Genesis' Back in N.Y.C., and Double Suicide (Mercy Killing) by Versus.
