Rooftop Screamers Lean Into Melancholy Indie Pop on New Single Our Story
Rooftop Screamers is the brainchild of Mike Collins, a Portland-based drummer and percussionist who has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry. From sharing stages with Cheap Trick and Joan Jett to collaborating with Earl Slick and David Paton, it's fair to say that Mike brings a rather impressive resume to the table.
Getting back to Rooftop Screamers - the project put out its debut offering, Your Day Will Come, in 2019. Since then, they've delivered a constant stream of new music, and today I'd like to spotlight Our Story, the latest single from Mike's ever-productive sonic venture.
Described by the artist as a "melancholy indie pop love song," Our Story is driven by shimmering guitars, warm bass tones, and emotionally grounded vocals. Balancing a reflective mood with a comforting touch, there's a vulnerability that runs through the heart of the tune.
Add the unmistakable voice of Royston Langdon (Spacehog) to proceedings, and what you end up with is an inviting, immersive, and beautifully pieced together track.
Capturing the emotional surrender of connection, Our Story is about recognising true love the moment it appears. "It's a song about going the distance when it matters," says Mike. "It's about not falling into fantasy - but into honesty, and being seen for who you truly are."
