Shine Your Light Showcases Nancy Carey Johnson’s Gift for Timeless Songwriting

Shine Your Light is one of the most intriguing EP's I've heard so far this year. Courtesy of Vermont-based singer/songwriter Nancy Carey Johnson, the four-track offering is a beautifully eclectic collection of songs steeped in Americana and folk. Infused with that classic, old-school singer/songwriter craftsmanship, it's as much a showcase of Nancy's storytelling as it is of her gift for concocting music that feels utterly timeless. Let's explore a little further.

Guano Loco sets the scene in an extremely infectious fashion thanks to a summery ukulele and Nancy's captivating, inviting vocals. It's a charming little tune that worms its way into your head before giving way to the EP's title track, a five-minute piece of music that's as beautiful and expansive as anything I've come across recently.

She Let Him Go is delicate and sparse, allowing listeners to once again fully appreciate Nancy's breathtaking vocals, before Take Me To The River steps in to close out Shine Your Light.

Now, as you know, I like to leave a little of the journey untouched, and Take Me To The River shall be no different. All I'll say is this: Nancy Carey Johnson's latest release is a truly special one!
