Vidura Barrios Blends Earthy Instrumentation and Joyful Chanting on Shiva Shambho Kirtan
I recently had the enormous pleasure of interviewing Vidura Barrios, a composer, artist, and the founder of Inner Splendor Media. Known for his spiritual, meditative music, Vidura's work has found a huge audience over the years - and also racked up millions of plays along the way.
Shiva Shambho Kirtan is Vidura's latest single, a hypnotic, sacred journey released less than two weeks ago. "It is a joyful, rhythm-driven celebration of the Indian devotional tradition of kirtan," says Vidura, as he bridges traditional chanting with a crisp, contemporary edge.
Featuring 100% organic instrumentation and vocals, Vidura's new track radiates with an authentic, earthy purity. There's zero pretence here, just honest musicianship and deep respect for the tradition.
Inviting listeners to join in and participate, rather than just listen along, the beauty of Shiva Shambho Kirtan is that there's literally no target audience. I believe anyone with an open mind can connect with it, regardless of their sonic preferences.
A celebration of Shiva through the names Śaṅkara, Hara, and Śambho, Shiva Shambho Kirtan (and Vidura Barrios) has opened my ears to music I doubt I would have found on my own. And that's something I'll always be deeply grateful for.
